Beginning her career in financial services in 2007, Rebecca has established herself as a highly effective systems analyst, with a strong background in both operations and technology. Working for some of Australia’s largest superannuation funds, Rebecca is highly sought for her exceptional analytical skills, technical capability and exceptional productivity.

What do you do at QMV and in what circumstances would I come to you for something?

I'm a senior consultant at QMV, specialising in system development and data integrity within the superannuation industry.

I'm currently filling a client role as a lead systems developer, leading an agile delivery squad to develop and implement Acurity based solutions.

You can come to me for anything involving the Systems Development Lifecycle (SDLC). Although I work mainly in development currently, I've extensive experience across many SDLC roles, which has given me a distinct generalist skillset that I can apply to various needs.

What’s one professional skill you’re currently working on/or have completed?

I didn't start out my career in tech, nor with that ambition in mind, but its a pathway that I was thankfully encouraged to pursue by some great leaders. After commencing my IT studies I soon discovered my passion for development. There's always more to learn and new coding languages that are fun to play around with, so I'm fortunate for the initial push in this direction.

On the soft skill side, effective communication is a skill I'm always working on and refining. Communication is such an important part of working as a consultant and really any professional role. Effective communication has the power to improve outcomes, increase efficiency and build stronger working relationships.

Who or What has influenced you most when it comes to how you approach your work?

Every single person I have the opportunity to work with or for has influenced me. I value what I learn from the interactions with new people and the different ways of working I get to experience as a consultant.

I've taken the most influence from some great managers I've had earlier in my career though. I've had some great role models to aspire to.

I've also learnt a great deal from inexperienced managers I've worked with. It was a difficult challenge for me. I overcame that by believing in my abilities and moving forward. I now know the value of a leader who fosters growth.

What behaviour or personality trait is most important to you, and why?

Leading by example is a trait that I've valued in former leaders, and I try to uphold that value in myself when leading a team.

A team it is guaranteed to be made up of different personality types, and although that can be challenging, leading by example will always gain their respect. It's also important to recognise the different ways people feel valued.

I admire honesty and integrity in the people I work with. When people have these traits you can count on them to do the right thing and try their best, which goes along way for me in building a collaborative team.

What’s one thing that surprised you about working at QMV?

When I joined QMV I did not expect the directors to be so hands on. All three take on work assignments just like any other QMV consultant. From my first day I've recognised how hard working and talented they all are. I've learnt a great deal from all of them, they're great role models as well as bosses.
