What do you do at QMV and in what circumstances would I come to you for something?

I am a Senior Consultant at QMV and currently working as a Business Analyst at my current client engagement. My background in superannuation is quite diverse so you might come to me for a range of matters!

I love problem solving and finding the ‘right’ answer, irrespective of whether the question relates to a specific business process, industry best practice approach, or even regulatory and compliance guidance.

What’s one professional skill you’re currently working on/or have completed?

I completed my MBA a few years ago which was the best (and one of the hardest!) things I've ever done. It instilled the importance of establishing a clear business strategy and aligning every decision and action taken with that strategy to achieve the end goal.

I am definitely a ‘big picture’ person who likes to understand the context of any task and how my small component is contributing to the overall masterpiece. In this way, I really connected with this aspect of the degree and find myself utilising these learnings on a daily basis.

Who or What has influenced you most when it comes to how you approach your work?

I genuinely believe we are a product of our environments and social experiences from a very young age, so it's really hard to pinpoint a specific influence. I had a fabulous primary school teacher who instilled the importance of curiosity and asking questions and a mentor at my first full-time job who reinforced the importance of "do it right, do it once". I believe I encountered both of these people at the right time in my life, and as a result, they have had a significant influence on my working style.

However, more recently I've encountered some amazing women who have highly successful careers and yet seem to have their work/life balance sorted out! They are my current inspiration and a reminder of what we can achieve without sacrificing what’s most important to us.

What behaviour or personality trait is most important to you, and why?

Integrity and respect for others are qualities that I value most highly and strive to demonstrate every day.

We live in a time when the loudest voice in the room is the only one that is heard, which is not only sad, but a significant risk in our workplaces and society more broadly. I learnt a long time ago that just because someone may be different from ourselves or have less experience doesn’t mean that their opinion or viewpoint should be valued any less. We need to listen more and speak less!

I’m also very passionate about producing high quality work in all aspects of my life. Nobody is perfect (and I’m far from it!), but I believe that if you’re going to invest your time into a task, you should do it properly the first time and do the best you can. On a side note, I also apply this philosophy in my love for cooking – I make everything from scratch!

What’s one thing that surprised you about working at QMV?

I love working for QMV for many reasons, but the biggest surprise for me was the inclusion and support within the organisation. Consulting firms have a reputation for being a little "dog eat dog" and pushing staff to work longer and harder, but that's certainly not my experience whilst at QMV.

Whenever I've needed some guidance or asked a question, I'm always flooded with information and tips straight away. Everyone is so approachable, especially our Directors and senior staff, which create a really pleasant working environment. We're a little community and we're all in this together - I wasn't expecting that at all, but I love it.
